Shoulder replacements are in general treatments for shoulder arthritis, in the same way knee replacements are done for knee arthritis, and hip replacements are done for hip arthritis.

You don’t tend to hear about as much about shoulder replacement surgery, but it’s actually quite common. About a million procedures are done in the United States every year.

When we start to see bone-on-bone articulation, pain with movement, loss of range of motion, weakness and pain at night, you may have shoulder arthritis, and at that point, you may be a good candidate for this procedure.

A shoulder replacement can be an excellent procedure for improving your quality of life by decreasing pain and improving function.
